Dental services
have undergone many changes in the last 10 years altering the way dentists work
and are funded. In particular Dentists have found it increasingly difficult to maintain
and improve standards as a result of these changes. We always hoped to provide
an NHS service to our patients but in order to ensure that the quality of care
and service to patients is improved, this practice has steadily expanded the private
element of the care it provides. We believe that patients want to pick the best
they can afford, so long as they can perceive the value.
From
the Dentist point of view we want the opportunity to practice Dentistry to the
standards which we find personally satisfying. We wish to invest in the latest
equipment and have the resources to treat our patients to the highest standards,
to reduce the paperwork and so concentrate more on our patients, and to have clinical
freedom to provide the best treatment choice available including treatment that
is not available on the NHS such as cosmetic work.
Many
patients are fully aware of the above problems from the wide
coverage in the media. We encourage patients to discuss with
us the pros and cons of private treatment and the benefits
it will bring. Generally speaking we restrict NHS
treatment to patients under 18.
For
NHS patients we will do all we can to provide the best standards under the
time constraints and the very long hours we have to work under.
