The
practice has never looked back since and has moved twice to new purpose built
premises, the first one being out grown after 10 years. After John Burns retired,
a partnership was formed between George Huntley and Peter Coombe, the two both
having been to the same school in the Isle of Man and both graduated from London.
Later still the partnership was enlarged with the joining of Rod Jones, a graduate
of Liverpool. For many years the practice has also been fortunate to have a fourth
Dentist., working as an associate. Because of the more recent difficulty of attracting
dental manpower due to the steady decline of funding for NHS services, we have
relied on attracting dentists from overseas who wish to experience the Isle of
Man, and have enjoyed the company of a Canadian, a Finn and at present a New Zealander,
Grant Hill, who has been with the practice for 10 years.
In February 2008 Peter Coombe retired and we are fortunate to be joined by Anna Gibb, as an Associate Dentist.
The
practice has always tried to serve the dental needs of the local community, attempting
to provide a pleasant environment for patients. We see patients
from all over the Island and even further afield, who are seeking private treatment
such as cosmetic work. We had to become less reliant on the NHS system in order to provide an adequately funded good quality service. Acceptance of NHS patients is limited to children and a selected group of adults.
